STUDENT CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES

Central High School has many clubs that have been organized to create a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. Membership in clubs is open to any CHS student unless otherwise stated. All club meetings and functions, whether during or after school, require the presence of a faculty sponsor. These organizations include the following:

Art Club

The CHS Art Club is meant to bring together students who love art and have a desire to give back to their school and community. Art club is open to any student who has a passion for art. Members can participate in planned activities, including at least one service project or fundraiser during the academic year. Regular Art Studio time is held every Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3 p.m. – 4:15 p.m. All members are required to contribute $5 in dues for the year.

Beta club / National Honor Society 

Central’s Beta chapter is a member of National Beta Club, an entity which recognizes and awards members for their academic achievement, encourages volunteerism in the school and community, and provides leadership opportunities. Both National and the local chapter aim to instill qualities that create self-motivated, caring, capable model citizens.  

National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes and develops scholarship, character, leadership, and service in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. Together with students in National Beta Club, NHS members focus on academic excellence and volunteer service at CHS.

Cosmetology club - Skills USA

The cosmetology club gives students an opportunity to be involved in a career related organization.  Leadership, organization and preparation, as well as technical skills are explored that relate to the beauty and fashion industry of Cosmetology.

Criminal Justice Organization of Columbia Central High School

The Criminal Justice Organization is a club designed to complement the Criminal Justice classes and to fulfill the student organization requirement of all Career and Technical Classes. Our goals are to enrich students with out of the classroom experiences and activities. We use Skills USA as a guide and they are our state organization.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools.

Elevating Young Minds

Elevating Young Minds is a student organization which is focused on promoting positivity and cultural awareness at Columbia Central High School. 

Goals are accomplished by giving students a chance to be exposed to college and careers outside of a classroom environment. Students have chances to explore the arts via student plays and poetry contests. There are also debate led discussions about current events and issues impacting the community.

FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America)
This organization is the largest business student organization in the world!  Participation will not only prepare students for a career in business, but also provide them with opportunities to develop leadership, communication, social, and service skills that are beneficial in any workplace.  Members will make professional business contacts that could help them later in life.  Most meeting will take place during Lion Time, but others will be held before or after school.  We highly encourage students to join this valuable organization.

FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes):

Purpose: To present to coaches and athletes, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.

There is no cost to be a member of FCA; if the student wants an FCA t-shirt, the cost is $20.00.

Interact Club

The purpose of Interact is to provide opportunity for young people to work together in a world fellowship dedicated to service and international understanding.

The goals of Interact are:

1. To recognize and develop constructive leadership and personal integrity.

3. To create an awareness of the importance of home and family.

Mechatronics - SkillsUSA
is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We help each student excel. A nonprofit national education association, SkillsUSA serves middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.

Model United Nations / Youth in Government

Each fall, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee sponsors a Model United Nations conference. At the conference, Tennessee high school students learn about the real world operation of the United Nations by participating in a reenactment of the organization’s activities.

Most students form delegations and represent member countries’ interests in the General Assembly by drafting and debating resolutions. These resolutions cover a wide variety of topics of international concern. Other students have the opportunity to represent their countries on the Security Council and Secretariat, to participate in a model International Court of Justice, to serve in the Department of Public Information.

Model UN Video

Youth in Government Program is an annual conference designed to offer high school and middle school students a hands-on experience with state government. Each year, over 2500 students from across the state converge on the State Capitol, taking the places of our real government officials. Program participants can serve as senators or representatives, as justices and lawyers, as department commissioners and lobbyists, or even as press corps members.

Mu Alpha Theta Club

Mu Alpha Theta is a national organization of math clubs.  The purpose of this club is not only to honor those students with outstanding achievement in mathematics but also to promote scholarship, enjoyment, and understanding of math.

Peace in Action

Peace in Action is an organization that promotes unity and a climate of acceptance here at Columbia Central.  The students represent all backgrounds, genders, and cultures and serve as ambassadors at times in our community.  Approximately 22-25 students make up Peace in Action during a school year and they are nominated by teachers, counselors, administrators, and team members and are interviewed and selected by team members.  Students are required to receive training in conflict resolution and mediation and receive community service hours for being a part. Community volunteers and our sponsor act as our trainers.  Columbia Police Department, Maury County Sheriff’s Department, Maury County Mediation Center and FRC Program Directors have assisted us in over 15 years of our program.

Photography Club

The Digital Arts Club enables students to realize their creative visions through the use of state-of-the-art software in the areas of animation, graphic design, photography and illustration. We integrate Digital Arts and Design coursework into club activities. We are affiliated with the Technology Students Association. We plan to attend regional competition this school year. We do projects in photography and graphic design.

Science Club

The purpose of science club is to promote interest in the sciences, provide experiences in the sciences above and beyond the classroom setting, provide career information in the sciences and enhance the involvement of science students.  

Activities will focus on, but are not restricted to, the invitation of guest speakers to the campus, various student-lead presentations given to younger students throughout the community, trips to science related locations, and also activities which will allow the members to establish bonds with others who hold common interests.

Student Council

The Central High School Student Council is among the oldest and most well respected organizations on campus. It is made up of people who run for Student Body Offices and class representatives on the council. There are grade and  clean discipline record requirements. The Student council applications for upperclassmen are due in the SPRING, the Freshman Council in the FALL. Student council is the moving force behind Homecoming, Prom, Senior Day, Spirit Week, and most of the other school wide social functions each year. The council also functions as a link between the school and the community. Student Council strives to work in conjunction with the alumni, students, faculty, staff, and administration to insure that our school is the best high school experience  in Maury County. The cost of being on student council includes the purchase of a shirt and the purchase of items (minimal)from time to time which relate to the activities the council sponsors.

Stylus Writers' Workshop

The Stylus Editorial Board is for anyone interested in writing stories, poems, plays, etc. We discuss and practice various creative activities, and we meet weekly on Friday afternoons
